A Propos of the Great Council of the Orthodox Church

There are those among us who are referred to as progressives, who are eager for dialogue. And those who are regarded as conservatives, who generally reject contact with others. We speak the mother tongue of humanity, the language of truth and love which preserves freedom and unity as the prerequisite for life. When we say that in the Church’s Holy of Holies there is the one truth, Christ, who manifests Himself in vanishing from sight – this is not something that flatters some people and disparages others (in which case it would be deluding all of us). The great and holy duty placed upon the Orthodox is not just to do something, but to manifest the riches of grace that we experience liturgically in the Church. This remains unmoved, though the earth be shaken and the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea. The Orthodox Church has the consciousness of being the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. That is not simply an assertion, but rather a blessing that stems from the God-man’s sacrifice on the Cross which culminates in the Resurrection. We are living in an era of dialogues. Christians are trying to breathe new life into the unity that the God-man grants us and wishes for us.
